FUSTÉ-LAMBEZAT Michel
Born in Bordeaux in 1934, Michel Fusté-Lambezat studied solfeggio and oboe at the Bordeaux Conservatoire, then entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he took classes in counterpoint and fugue, music history, conducting and musical composition. In 1960, he won 1st prize at the Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors, then 1st prize for composition in Darius Milhaud’s class in 1963.

Biography
Born in Bordeaux in 1934, Michel Fusté-Lambezat studied solfeggio and oboe at the Bordeaux Conservatoire, then entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he took classes in counterpoint and fugue, music history, conducting and musical composition. In 1960, he won 1st prize at the Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors, then 1st prize for composition in Darius Milhaud’s class in 1963. Appointed conductor at the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux in 1964, then harmony professor at the conservatory in 1965, he founded a very active composition class. Today, this “Bordeaux School” is made up of composers resident in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region: Thierry Alla, Didier Marc Garin, Christophe Havel, Christian Lauba and Philippe Laval.
In 1984, Michel Fusté-Lambezat founded the Ensemble Musique nouvelle Bordeaux Aquitaine, a variable-geometry orchestra whose mission is to promote 20th-century music, notably by commissioning music from young composers. In 1989, he was appointed Director of the Bordeaux Conservatoire, where he remained until 2000, pursuing his mission to promote new music.
