Biography

Hungarian-born pianist, composer and Doctor of Philosophy Michel Sogny is best known for having developed a new approach to piano teaching that has enabled a generation of students of all ages to experience the joys of playing an instrument considered inaccessible unless taught as a child.

In 1974, he founded his school in Paris, which became a much sought-after venue: Isabelle Aubret, Annie Cordy, Marie-Paule Belle, Alice Dona, Pierre Douglas, Françoise Hardy, Jeane Manson, Heri Salvador, William Sheller, Sylvie Joly and Sempé all called on him.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs devotes a report to him in the film magazine France Panorama, broadcast worldwide.

Eminent music personalities also applauded this innovation in musical pedagogy: Martha Argerich, France Clidat, Aldo Ciccolini, Paul Badura Skoda, Alexis Weissenberg and Gyorgy Cziffra.

In 1986, in New York, the United Nations (UN) awarded him the Peace Medal, and in 1994, UNESCO awarded him an honorary diploma.

Michel Sogny is the author of numerous literary and musical works, notablypublished by Editions Musicales Durand.

His latest books include L’adulte prodige, le rêve au bout des doigts, De Dostoevsky à Victor Hugo(interviews with Alexis Philonenko) are published by France-Empire.

Michel Sogny is Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Switzerland.
