Bachorky

The work distances itself from the usual criteria of chamber music. First of all, it offers a choice of three or four musicians, depending on the conditions indicated below. But above all, it evokes the milieu of traditional music by directly involving Bohemian and Moravian folk instruments played by a single musician. In the course of the piece, these are presented in turn in combination with so-called “classical” instruments: clarinet, viola and piano. It is this confluence of two sound worlds – that of the sophisticated instruments of “learned” music and that of imperfect, rustic folk instruments – that determines the fundamental character of the work and is at the origin of the composition.
