This current edition of Hélène Covatti’s Melodies (Athens 1910 – Paris 2005) was produced using manuscripts found in the home of her daughter, the pianist Thérèse Dussaut. No date of composition can be found on these documents, but there exists a concert poster from 1938 on which the Greek mezzo-soprano Spéranza Calo-Séailles included various Covatti melodies in her programme. These melodies were also performed on French national radio by another Greek artist, the soprano Elen Dosia, star of the Opéra National de Paris.
This collection will allow the public to finally discover the vocal music of Hélène Covatti, hitherto unpublished, and reveal the work of a greatly talented woman. A collection of eight contrasting melodies, with the female figure always in the spotlight. Iñaki Encina Oyón
