Un grand vent s’est levé was commissioned by Musique Nouvelle en Liberté on the occasion of the creation of the Livre de Notre-Dame, a set of 15 commissions for composers to mark the 850th anniversary of the of the Cathedral. Premiered on October 22, 2013 by the Maîtrise de Notre-Dame de Paris under the direction of Emilie Fleury, with Denis Comtet at the organ, this piece is written on a text by Joseph Gelineau, s.j. and Didier Rimaud, s.j.
This text evokes Pentecost, the wonders of God sung in all languages. I was sensitive to the notion of wind, of breath speaking to all; this is why I used that’s why I used in my own way the music of the Gregorian Veni Creator, treated as a starting point for the work. This theme recurs more explicitly at the end of the work. Originally written for children’s choir
and organ, this piece can also be interpreted by a women’s choir or even by three or even three solo female voices.
